VHIS Viet Hoa International School organizes the 2025 Chinese Character Culture and Talent Competition

Integrating Language, Art, and Cultural Literacy – Inspiring Creativity and Expression

Organized by Viet Hoa International School (VHIS), the 2025 Chinese Character Culture and Talent Competition was successfully held from May 19 to 20, with enthusiastic participation from students of all grade levels. The event celebrated the beauty of Traditional Chinese characters through an integration of language skills, aesthetic expression, and creative writing—providing a stage for students to express themselves and connect with culture. The event was honored by the presence of officials from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City, who added prestige and encouragement to the competition.

A Bilingual Education Model that Nurtures Balanced Excellence

VHIS is one of the few overseas Chinese schools that emphasizes balanced bilingual education. With a dual-track curriculum in Chinese and international subjects, students are equipped with both fluent Chinese communication skills and strong English academic abilities. This competition showcases the school’s ongoing commitment to strengthening students’ foundation in Chinese language and culture.

Diverse Competition Categories – Unlocking Student Expression

The competition featured six major categories, allowing students to showcase their language and writing abilities in various forms:

  • Poetry Recitation (All Grades): Students selected and recorded classic poems, evaluated on intonation, emotion, and articulation.

  • Illustrated Journals (G1–G4): Students recorded their school life through drawings and text, encouraging observation and storytelling.

  • Argumentative Essays (G5–G8): Upper-grade students wrote persuasive essays on educational topics, developing logical thinking and expression.

  • Calligraphy (All Grades): Live competition during calligraphy class, focusing on structure, stroke rhythm, and aesthetic quality.

  • Hard Pen Handwriting (All Grades): On-the-spot Traditional Chinese penmanship evaluated for daily writing proficiency.

Students of all nationalities could freely register for up to two categories, encouraging diverse participation and cross-disciplinary challenges—reflecting VHIS’s commitment to self-expression and multilingual excellence.

Rigorous and Fair Judging – Celebrating Learning Achievements

Judging panels comprised of VHIS language and art teachers evaluated entries based on clearly defined criteria. Results were publicly posted on campus, with certificates and prizes awarded to outstanding students. Selected works may be nominated for interschool or international contests, promoting broader recognition of student efforts.

A Fusion of Culture × Aesthetics × Literacy

More than a language contest, this event was a practical integration of language arts, creativity, and cultural awareness. Students explored the beauty of Traditional Chinese characters through art, writing, and performance—demonstrating VHIS’s commitment to the core competencies of language, aesthetics, and expression.
The school also hosted exhibitions of students’ calligraphy and illustrations during the contest period, creating a rich campus cultural atmosphere appreciated by both teachers and parents.

VHIS remains committed to bilingual education as a foundation for nurturing linguistic intelligence and global citizenship.
